My
sincere hope this correspondence finds you and your families safe and well. As
we bid farewell to the chill of Winter and eagerly await the warmth of Spring
and Summer, we here at The Foundation would like to inform you of a special
event that has been in the planning stages for some time.
This
August 26th-29th The New York Firefighters Burn Center
Foundation is both proud and honored to be a local host and sponsor of The
Phoenix Society for burn survivors 21st annual World Burn Congress.
The Congress will unite over 600 burn survivors, firefighters, families and
healthcare professionals for a 4 day conference focused on providing the
necessary tools and resources a burn survivor needs as they continue their
journey of recovery from the devastation of a burn injury.
We
are deeply honored to welcome Kim Phuc to our city as one of the keynote
speakers for the conference. Two dedicated and compassionate firefighters, FF
Joe Hickey and FF Jack Meara were responsible for the creation of our Foundation.
They were deeply moved by a Pulitzer Prize winning photo from the newspaper
depicting an image of two children who were horribly burned by Napalm during the
height of the Vietnam war. Kim Phuc was one of these children.
We
are presently inviting volunteers to help us welcome our visitors to our great
city and hope to provide an atmosphere of goodwill and friendship that only New
York City can provide. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
As
we move forward in many different directions and continue our work to provide
for the burn community we serve, know that our work would not be possible with
out the support you provide to us each and every day.
As
you can see, we have a new website, check back often as we continue to update
our information and upcoming events.
My
